Idea Institutes 2008-2009 and beyond....
Shared in this timely series of engaging sequential staff development sessions will be exemplary art examples archived electronically showing media and technique taught in varied ways. Innovative changes in teaching during the last three decades include UPGRADED lectures, NOW seen as entertaining electronic multimedia presentations, desktop published books, and other creative combinations of traditional and digital media use. Enjoy discovering new ways to teach media and techniques done numerous times before.This presenter loves sharing successes with a passion and it shows. She feels the more enthusiasm the teacher can bring to their subjects, the more engaged their learners will be. Customized sessions are available if previous subject matter is not enticing. History of The Idea Institutes
Founded in 2003, as part of the Texas Art Education Association conference, the IDEA INSTITUTES included a sequence of five sessions offering hundreds of unique lesson ideas in design, drawing, painting, in both traditional and digital media, with emphasis on creative expression. Sessions were conducted with an interactive lecture format complimented with multimedia presentations to saturate your artistic sensibilities. If a computer lab was available on-site,hands on applications of the digital components of the program were conducted. This exciting series of programs combined studio-intensive training offering work on and off of computers with special-focus workshops available upon request.
Application Information
Class size is kept small for hands on sessions to ensure that each participant has access to equipment and/or ample opportunity to interact with the instructor(s).The lecture formatted presentations are filled to capacity with every inch of the floor occupied by enthusiastic audience members. The Idea Institutes fill introductory classes and special-focus workshops on a first come-first served basis. Admissison is based upon several individuals with small group rates or larger groups for a key note address.
Admission Guidelines
Admission to The Idea Institutes is by application in a written request only ( email or snail mail).
All applications must include full payment to secure booking.

Application Deadline
Completed applications and fees for all summer classes must be received by 5 p.m., March 31. Candidates are notified of a decision of availability in mid-April and have until June 1 to respond to confirm/cancel the date. Candidates who are placed on a wait list may be contacted after other cancellations.
Fees and Expenses
Although fees vary from class to class, applicants should plan for the following range of fees and expenses per session:
Tuition (1 hour class )..........$250* ( up to 25 participants)
Tuition (3 hour class )..........$500* ( up to 25 participants)
1-2 Day Workshops(15-25 people)......$1500-$2500* ( 9:00-Noon 1:00-3:00)
Supplies with handouts ( in color)....................... Additional costs of $250-$500 or more depending on requests
Processing Fee..................$25
Total Fee.................... varies depending upon requests..from $250-$2500 ( not including handouts and supplies)
Scholarships
The Idea Institute awards scholarships to the most enthusiastic, most prepared, talented, and experienced applicants. Scholarship applications are reviewed and then scholarships are awarded based on strong committment to quality art education.
To apply for a scholarship:
1. Request/complete an application.Idea Institutes Application
2. Submit the completed application form by the deadline. Include 250 word statement why you/your group deserves to be awarded a scholarship. Indicate which presentation format interest you/your group. How after having been awarded the scholarship will the information impact your teaching style? your classes? your students?
3. Submit slides ( digital or 35 mm) of your portfolio with a description sheet (optional)

Idea Institute Course
Offerings:
Session I: FOUR COMPUTER ART CLASSES begins by addressing how art class size dictates classroom management strategies that has students alternating between working on and off the computers. What follows are curricula for each of four levels of electronic media coursework. First year students learn to communicate an intended message with a multimedia presentation. Storyboarding and the sequential development of the presentation is covered. Hear how animation is part of the learning process that assists the instructor in teaching the steps of the software. Second year students learn image manipulation software and end the course with all of their work in a presentation.Third year students continue to manipulate their own original art for the pages of their own desktop published books.Seniors are responsible for an entire marketing campaign which introduces them to the world as artists. They plan and complete a Senior exhibition with posters, post card invitations, artists tags, sign in books and artist catalogues which includes all the works in their show. Session II: ARCHIVING AP PORTFOLIOS has advanced placement studio art portfolio submission as the focus.Shared is the paperwork that students and teacher uses to facilitate clear communication and a timely completion of college board requirements.The end result is a series of multimedia presentations of AP Studio Art portfolios catalogued to show all twenty four (24) pieces of concentration, quality and breadth pieces along with commentary. Session III: GET PUBLISHED: PASS IT ON: discusses guidelines for writing for magazines and/or textbooks to facilitate success in yours and other's classrooms. Examples are shown and stories told on how each of the publishing ventures came about. Included are; West Publishing's Teachers Across Texas, Davis Publications' Discovering Art History's Connections, McGraw Hill's Digital Studio Projects, and School Arts' Portfolio page features and Clip art articles.
Session IV: GRANT WRITING 101: addresses our budgetary limitations and how these can inspire funding necessary items through winning grants.Each step of the grant seeking and the proposal writing process is explained in detail. Winning grants will be shared which allowed an all expense paid trip to Japan, that purchased materials for classroom use, and others that were school wide projects impacting the schools with $100,000. in funding continuing for three years.
