Phillip Contreras Portfolio Phillip absolutely loved to draw as you see. Not too many years ago, I had my seniors at University of Houston for a field trip. Walking across the campus, I heard someone say,"Mrs Maresh!" I turned to see only grown men. Again someone called me. I turned to find Phillip, all grown up, who had graduated many years before from my previous school, had gone off to the marines, returned and was studying painting on his GI Bill. I can only imagine how realistic he may be painting. Enjoy his work. He amazed us all with his unique ability. |

Chelsea Coronado's Portfolio Chelsea was asked during her Junior year to submit an AP Studio Art portfolio the last two weeks of the school year. She had been cranking out all of this phenomenal work and when another student admitted that he was not going to have the work to submit, I turned to Chelsea and ask if she was up for the task of preparing her work for submission. She was and scored top scores. |

Jeff Filla This renegade artist fought me at every opportunity. He was so gifted and had such mastery of the media. His imagination presented us with unique and rich imagery, Many years after Jeff graduated and was honored with a National Scholastic portfolio award, he walked in as a grown handsome man in a suit apologizing for how he treated me. I ask about all of his work, then he commented that he had thrown it all away. ( Sigh!) He said he considered politics and then chose to go on to study psychology. Wait till you see his use of Prismacolor! Coming soon! |

Nancy Lee's Portfolio Nancy and I were introduced during her third year of art study at John Foster Dulles High. She confessed that she did not understand color. I just met her so waited to see evidence of a lack of understanding. One weekend, she ask to take home a burnt sierra oil painting of two old men in overalls. A really nice peice, and over the weekend she added color. Oh my God! Lime green, bright red and blues that stood out like a soar thumb. I believed her. My request was that she take her sketchbook of black and white images and work with color harmonies and combinations. Our proudest moment was at the University of Houston ceremony, the color professor complimented Nancy of her phenomenal use of color as she was awarded a full scholarship to study art there. Our teary eyes met as we acknowledged her breakthrough accomplishment . |

Karen Tan's Portfolio Karen Tan is one of many phenomenal artists that shared time with me in my amazing teaching life. You will see some of the work completed during her participation in the four year program at J.F.Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas.
Karen's aspirations of becoming a children's book illustrator won her a full paid scholarship to the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design.
She's out in the world doing amazing things channeling that talent and energy from that generous heart of hers.
It is my honor to share Karen's work. Exemplary work positively impacts all who see it and aspire to achieve similar levels of expertise.
Thanks Karen!

Tina Trang's Portfolio Tina Trang's portfolio became a feature article in November's issue of School Arts magazine. The school librarian walked into my art class with that magazine in her hands pointing to the cover. Tina's charcoal cowboy filled the cover of School Arts, we did not know that it was being considered. That was an exciting day. Tina investigated her self portrait many different ways for her AP Studio Art concentration. She looked into every possible scholarship opportunity available and had financial compensation that allowed her to attend University of Texas. She commented that her single Mom could not afford to pay her way and she knew she had to pursue alternative measures and did. |
